The pharmaceutical industry focuses on improving human health with safe drug creation. High-quality water for pharmaceutical purposes is essential and this water must meet stringent standards while also being optimized.
Greenfield Global, a cGMP manufacturing facility in Ireland, produces high-purity chemicals and bioprocess solutions for life science industries. Committed to sustainability and carbon neutrality goals, the facility required a water generation system that meets stringent United States (USP) and European pharmacopeia (EP) standards for purified water and water for injection (WFI) while reducing its operations' environmental impact.
Our experts provided an Orion™ 2000 (Sustainable, S series) skid-mounted cold WFI generation and distribution system. Using reverse osmosis, continuous electrodeionization (CEDI) and ultrafiltration, the skid complies with US and EU pharmacopeia standards and undergoes routine hot water sanitization to ensure microbial compliance.
Owing to this we can ensure the delivery of cold WFI to three user points within the facility, providing a reliable and efficient solution. Being cold it significantly reduces energy consumption compared to traditional distillation methods, aligning with Greenfield Global's sustainability goals.
Additionally, the system is equipped with Hubgrade digital solutions, enabling real-time data visualization to ensure compliance, rapid event response to avoid shutdowns and maintenance optimization.

In April 2017 the European Pharmacopoeia Water for Injections (WFI) monograph was revised. For the first time, pharmaceutical manufacturers in Europe were able to choose between distillation systems (hot WFI) and reverse osmosis (RO) based membrane (cold WFI) systems.
